Big West 2011 is Here!

Arizona Late Summer Monsoon

WHEWWW!!

28 days – 8,000 miles – 13 states – 1 man and a Harley.

Finally returned from the mother of all road trips, with a ton of aches to boot.  On the 27th of July I set out across America to do as much work as I could in documenting our National Parks and a handful of forests, parks and mountains.  I think when everyone has the same reaction as to how much of a blast it must have been, and it was: I don’t believe anybody could imagine the stamina, attention, focus and emotion exerted that goes along with a journey of this magnitude. Being exposed to the elements for 300 miles a day for a month can take its toll, and after being home for a month now I am still feeling the effects of such an odyssey!

I think the most difficult task was ensuring the safeguard of my equipment: a camera body, 2 lenses, a MacBook and a small collection of chargers, batteries, mouse, memory cards and so forth.  Most of the time they spent tucked away in my tailbag behind my seat, not much of a lure for prying eyes and thieves, but at the slightest hint of black clouds (and there were a lot of black clouds!) this sensitive gear requires rainproofing by a myriad of systems, the most useful being a state of the art – uh – Ziplock laundry bag.

Over the next few weeks I’m going to attempt to showcase a different segment of the country periodically. I suppose eventually a gallery showing may be in the works, that would require quite a bit of attention, something that may need to hold on until after the crazy wedding season!
